Navigating the RBT Task List (2nd Edition)
The RBT Task List serves as the blueprint for your exam. Understanding its structure is essential for targeted study. The exam content is divided into six primary categories, covering everything from Measurement to Professional Conduct.
Category A: Measurement
This section covers data collection. You must know how to prepare for data collection, implement continuous and discontinuous measurement procedures, and enter data and update graphs. Accuracy is paramount here.
Category B: Assessment
RBTs assist with assessments but do not design them. You should understand how to conduct preference assessments and assist with functional assessment procedures. Knowing your role is key.
Category C: Skill Acquisition
This is often the largest section. It includes using contingencies of reinforcement, implementing discrete-trial teaching, naturalistic teaching, and discrimination training. Focus on teaching procedures.
Category D: Behavior Reduction
You need to understand essential components of a behavior reduction plan. This includes creating descriptions of behavior, implementing extinction procedures, and using differential reinforcement. Safety and crisis updates are also covered.
Category E: Documentation and Reporting
Communication is vital. This area tests your ability to generate objective session notes and effectively communicate with your supervisor. Adhering to legal and regulatory requirements is mandatory.
Category F: Professional Conduct
This section focuses on ethics. You must understand the RBT Ethics Code, including how to respond to feedback and maintain professional boundaries. Client dignity is a central theme.
