Maintaining the Therapeutic Relationship

We work in clients' homes, often for hours a day. It is easy to feel like part of the family, but you must maintain professional boundaries to be effective. This protects both you and the client.

Do Not Accept Friend Requests

Social media is for your personal life. Do not specific clients or accept their requests. It blurs the line between professional and friend. Privacy works both ways.

Avoid Dual Relationships

Do not babysit, pet sit, or provide other services for families you work with professionally. If a dual relationship arises (e.g., your cousin marries the client's uncle), disclose it to your supervisor immediately. Ethics require separation.

Dress Code

Dress professionally for the job. You need to be able to move, play on the floor, and be safe (no dangling jewelry). Your appearance sets the tone for the session.
