Visualizing Behavior Change

RBTs are often responsible for entering data into graphs. The standard in ABA is the line graph. You must understand its components to interpret progress.

X-axis and Y-axis

The X-axis (horizontal) represents time (sessions, days). The Y-axis (vertical) represents the behavior (frequency, duration). "Time goes by (X), Behavior goes up/down (Y)."

Condition Change Lines

A vertical line drawn on the graph indicates a change in the intervention (phase change). Data points are not connected across this line. It separates baseline from intervention.

Trend and Level

Trend is the direction the data path is going (increasing, decreasing, stable). Level is where the data points fall on the Y-axis (high, low). Analyzing these tells us if the treatment is working.
