Understanding Your Supervision Rules
To maintain your RBT certification, you must meet specific supervision requirements set by the BACB. Failing to meet these can result in losing your credential. This is a common professional conduct exam topic.
5% Rule
You must be supervised for a minimum of 5% of your hours providing behavior-analytic services each month. If you work 100 hours, you need 5 hours of supervision.
Two Face-to-Face Contacts
You need at least two face-to-face contacts with your supervisor each month. One of these must be individual (just you and the BCBA), but the other can be in a small group. Direct observation involves the supervisor watching you work with a client.
Responsibility
It is your responsibility to track your supervision hours, even if your company does it too. Keep your own records. If you fall short, you must report it to the BACB. Accountability is key.
