Decoding the Question Stem

RBT exam questions often hinge on a single word. Training your eye to spot these keywords is the secret to choosing the correct answer on your RBT practice exam.

First vs. Best

If a question asks "What should the RBT do first?", look for the immediate safety step or the first step in a protocol. If it asks for the "best" response, look for the most effective clinical intervention. Prioritization matters.

Always vs. Never

Be wary of absolute words like "always" or "never." In behavior analysis, everything depends on the individual and the function. These answers are often incorrect distractors. Look for nuance.

Key Definitions

Look for words that map to definitions. "Increase behavior" = Reinforcement. "Decrease behavior" = Punishment. "Before behavior" = Antecedent. Translating the question into behavioral terms simplifies the answer choices.
