The Core Principles (Get a Cab)

Applied Behavior Analysis is defined by seven dimensions. Baer, Wolf, and Risley (1968) set the standard. The acronym GET A CAB helps you remember.

G - Generality

Behavior lasts over time and appears in new environments.

E - Effective

Interventions produce large enough changes to matter socially. It works.

T - Technological

Procedures are written so clearly that anyone can replicate them like a recipe.

A - Applied

We target behaviors that are socially significant to the client (not just easy to change).

C - Conceptually Systematic

Interventions are derived from basic principles of behavior (reinforcement, punishment, extinction).

A - Analytic

We make decisions based on data. We demonstrate a functional relation.

B - Behavioral

We target observable and measurable behavior, not thoughts or feelings.
