What is Error Correction?

Error Correction is what you do when the client gets it wrong. It is a Consequence.

Common Procedures

1. Least-to-Most: If they get it wrong, give a gesture. Still wrong? Give a verbal.
2. No-No-Prompt: Say "No", remove eyes, re-present SD. If wrong again, prompt.
3. 4-Step Correction (Model-Prompt-Switch-Repeat): Often used in DTT.

RBT Practice Exam Scenario

Question: "The client identifies 'Blue' incorrectly. The RBT removes the materials, looks away for 3 seconds, then presents the trial again with a prompt. What is this?"
Answer: Error Correction Sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Error Correction

Should I say "No"?

Depends on the plan. Some plans prefer neutral feedback (just looking away) rather than a verbal "No" which might be attention.

Do I reinforce after a correction?

No! (Or reinforce less). If you give the full candy after you had to help them, they will learn to wait for help. Ideally, only independent responses get the big reward.

What if they keep getting it wrong?

Stop. You might be making it too hard. Go back to Errorless Learning or check your SD.
