What is DRA?
Differential Reinforcement of Alternative Behavior (DRA) reinforces a specific replacement behavior.
The alternative behavior does not have to be incompatible, just different.
Example: A child shouts the answer.
- Reinforce: Raising hand.
- Extinguish: Shouting.
Raising hand and shouting are alternatives. Can you do both? Yes (you can raise hand AND shout). But we only reward the raising hand.
RBT Practice Exam Scenario
Question: "The RBT ignores the child's whining and reinforces the child when they ask nicely. What is this?"
Answer: DRA.
