Checking In at Specific Times
Momentary Time Sampling (MTS) is a discontinuous measurement procedure. You only look at the client at the very end of the interval.
How It Works
Set a timer for 2 minutes. Do other work. When the timer beeps, look up. Is the client engaged in the target behavior at that exact moment? Mark Yes or No. Reset timer.
Pros and Cons
It is the easiest method for RBTs managing groups or multiple tasks. However, it can underestimate or overestimate behavior. It provides a snapshot.
Exam Tip
Use MTS for behaviors that happen frequently or last for a long time (like staying on task). Do not use it for brief behaviors like hitting, because you will likely miss them. Context determines the method.
